What to expect at 2 MB

2 MB is close to the original for most photographs. At this target the tool usually keeps the full resolution and barely lowers quality at all — often the file only shrinks because camera files carry more data than the image needs. Use it when an upload limit is the only reason you are compressing.

Which format to choose

For photographs, JPG is the safe choice, and WebP is usually 25–35% smaller again at the same visible quality — worth picking if whatever you are uploading to accepts it, as a few older forms still don't. For screenshots, charts, logos and anything containing text, PNG keeps edges crisp where JPG smears them into a grey haze; the file will be larger, so give it a more generous target. If your image needs a transparent background, use PNG or WebP — JPG has no transparency and will flatten it onto white.
