What to expect at 200 KB
200 KB carries a photo of about 1400 to 1600 pixels wide with very little visible loss on a normal screen. This is a comfortable size for a blog image or an email attachment: small enough to load quickly on a phone connection, large enough that nobody thinks about the compression.
Which format to choose
For photographs, JPG is the safe choice, and WebP is usually 25–35% smaller again at the same visible quality — worth picking if whatever you are uploading to accepts it, as a few older forms still don't. For screenshots, charts, logos and anything containing text, PNG keeps edges crisp where JPG smears them into a grey haze; the file will be larger, so give it a more generous target. If your image needs a transparent background, use PNG or WebP — JPG has no transparency and will flatten it onto white.
